Power Pages trial site expired? Convert it or reactivate it
A Power Pages trial site expires after 30 or 90 days, then stays suspended for seven days. Convert it in time, or reactivate it later from Inactive sites.
Power PagesFix a problem8 min read
Your Power Pages trial site expired, and now the site won't open, or it has vanished from your list of sites. Every Power Pages site starts as a trial, and a trial site has a fixed life. Once it expires, it's suspended and shut down, and after seven more days its host is deleted. Microsoft's lifecycle page says the site data stays in the environment, so even after that you can give the site a new host. What you can do depends on how long ago the trial ended and on the type of environment the site is in.
- You've had an email or a notification that the trial is nearing suspension: convert it now, before it's suspended.
- The site doesn't open, and you've had an email or notification that it's suspended: you have seven days from the suspension to convert it.
- The site has gone from your active sites: its host was deleted. Look under Inactive sites and reactivate it.
- You can't convert the site at all: it may be in a trial or developer environment.
- Microsoft Power PagesCreated as a trial site
- Step 2Expires after 30 days in a trial environment, 90 in production or sandbox
- Step 3Suspended: seven days left to convert
- Step 4Host deleted, site data kept
- Step 5Reactivate it from Inactive sites
Where your site is in its lifecycle
Microsoft's lifecycle page sets out the timings. How long a trial site lasts depends on where you created it:
| Where the site was created | When the trial site expires |
|---|---|
| A trial environment | After 30 days, or when the trial environment expires, whichever comes first |
| A production or sandbox environment | After 90 days |
After that, three things happen in order:
- Expired and suspended. The site is shut down and nobody can open it. You can still convert it to production for seven days from the suspension.
- Host deleted. If you don't convert it within those seven days, the site host is deleted. Microsoft says the site data isn't deleted from the environment. The space the site used is released, so you can create a new site.
- Listed as inactive. A site whose configuration is still in Dataverse but has no active host shows under Inactive sites on the Power Pages home page.
Microsoft says you're told about each stage (nearing suspension, suspended, deleted and converted) by email and by notifications in the product. The admin center also shows notifications about the trial's expiration.
Developer sites follow a different rule. A developer site is suspended when nobody edits it for 90 days. If you don't reactivate it within seven days of the suspension, its host is deleted too.
Warning
If you delete the Power Platform environment the trial site was created in, the site is deleted with it.
Still suspended: convert it to production
Within the seven days after suspension, an admin can convert the site. You need one of three roles: System administrator, Power Platform administrator or Dynamics 365 administrator.
- Make sure the environment has the licences the site needs. Microsoft says the environment needs licensing for external users, or a licence for internal users. Our Power Pages licensing guide explains the capacity packs and pay-as-you-go.
- Open the site in the Power Platform admin center. Learn gives two ways: from the design studio, the Set up workspace, then Open admin center in Site Details; or, in the admin center itself, Resources > Power Pages sites, then the site. Learn's steps for other site tasks in the newer admin center go through Manage > Power Pages instead, so use whichever your admin center shows.
- Learn says the admin center shows a notification about the trial's expiration. In the notification, select the convert option, or select the one in the Site Details section. Learn's steps call them Convert and Convert to Production.
- Learn says you also get the option to turn on the content delivery network for the site.
- Select Confirm.
Once the site is in production, allocate enough authenticated or anonymous user capacity, or turn on pay-as-you-go. Microsoft warns that a site without the right licences can perform poorly. Learn says you can add a custom domain only when the site is in production state (see why a custom domain isn't working).
Host deleted: reactivate it from Inactive sites
Missed the seven days? Learn's reactivate page says the host is deleted but the site's configuration data is kept in Dataverse. You give the site a new host:
- Go to the Power Pages home page, in the environment the site was in.
- Select Inactive sites. Your site should be listed.
- Select the reactivate option (Learn's steps call it Reactivate).
- Keep the default name and web address, or enter new ones. Learn's steps call the fields Reactivated website and Create a web address.
- Select Done. The site becomes active in the environment.
Learn's reactivate page doesn't say whether a reactivated site is a trial or a production site. Check the site's Application Type in the admin center's Site Details afterwards: Learn says it shows Trial or Production. If it shows Trial, convert it as described above.
Reactivating isn't only for expired trials. A site whose host someone deleted, or a site you moved to another environment, also waits under Inactive sites until you reactivate it.
Built in a trial environment
Microsoft doesn't let you convert a trial site to production in a trial or developer environment. The site needs a production or sandbox environment. A trial environment also limits the site: its trial ends after 30 days, or sooner if the environment expires first.
To keep the site, convert the environment first:
- In the Power Platform admin center, select Manage, then Environments.
- Select the trial environment, then Convert to production on the command bar.
- Select Continue. Microsoft says this can take several hours.
Microsoft says you need 1 GB of available production database capacity, and your tenant's admins decide who can convert trial environments. After the environment is converted, convert the site as described above, while it's still within its trial or its seven days of suspension.
A developer site can't be converted at all. You can migrate its configuration to a site in another environment instead.
Learn's pages don't all agree
- What's deleted. The Power Pages trial FAQ (dated 31 May 2023) says the trial site is deleted seven days after it's suspended. The lifecycle page (dated 28 April 2026) says the site host is deleted, and the site data isn't deleted from the environment. The reactivate page (dated 6 September 2023) says the same as the lifecycle page: when a trial expires, the host is deleted and the configuration data is kept. So check Inactive sites before you assume the site is gone.
- 30 days or 90. The trial FAQ's answer to how long the trial lasts says 30 days, and the FAQ adds that the trial includes a trial environment. The overview page (dated 23 April 2026) says a trial gives you a Power Pages environment for 30 days. The lifecycle page (dated 28 April 2026) gives 30 days to a trial site in a trial environment and 90 days to one in a production or sandbox environment, and the FAQ's own list of trial limits says the same.
Do
- Note the expiry date when you create a trial site, and plan the licence before then.
- Build sites you mean to keep in a production or sandbox environment.
- Check the admin center's Application Type after any conversion or reactivation.
Don't
- Don't delete the environment to start again: the site goes with it.
- Don't wait for the suspension: Learn says you can't access a site after it expires.
- Don't assume a site is gone because it left your active sites. Look under Inactive sites first.
